Texas Independent Rhodesian Ridgeback Rescue would like to share a few stories over the next few weeks about our senior dogs. At the present time we have ten dogs that are ten years of age or older. In all honesty most of those that are over ten years old and have been here for most of their lives, think this is their permanent home and more than likely it is. For those that are 11-14 years old, dependent upon their health, they are living their best life here and we are happy to have offered them sanctuary in a loving peaceful world. We have another 5 that are around 7 or 8 years old AND three of them are looking high and low for their new families. That would be Bella, Copper and Murphy – none of which are Ridgebacks. Copper, Bella and Murphy did not know what a Ridgeback was until they arrived at TIRR Rescue.
There are many ways to support a senior pet. First and foremost, ADOPT one or FOSTER one! If this does not work in your world, consider just visiting at TIRR Rescue. We have plenty of seniors that would enjoy a short visit, a walk in the woods, a good brushing (well, maybe not all of them would like this), or just relaxing beside a human that gives them their very own attention. Of course we must include the financial support of our seniors. Seniors come with more expenses due to their health, special food/supplement needs, and medications.
First senior dog is COPPER!
Copper is a neutered male, 7 ½ years old. He is housebroken, has house manners and knows his basic commands. Well, he may need to brush up on his manners after playing hard and heavy with Justin and Leeu for a few months. Copper was raised with children so he will be a good family dog. He also enjoys the company of other dogs. What Copper loves most is to be near his people and be involved in everything they do. Loves belly rubs. We would describe him as a quiet boy, unless someone he does not know approaches, then he is vocal about letting you know. As soon as you let him know the person is acceptable – he will then investigate to make friends.
Why you ask, is he at TIRR Rescue? Copper was adopted from TIRR when he was around 12 weeks old and lived with the family until recently. Divorce caused him to be without a home. Neither Mom, nor Dad wanted him after the divorce so as stipulated by contract, he was returned to us. Through no fault of his own, Copper finds himself homeless. We are happy to have him back and would love to find his real forever home.
