Sunny (short for Sunshine)

Where to start the story for Sunny?  TIRR Rescue gets call every day asking us to take a dog.  For several months we have said “no” to probably a hundred calls/emails. We are at capacity and need to make sure we prioritize the needs of the dogs currently in our program.   The call about Sunny was no different.  Roy kept asking the people calling us to continue looking in their area for a possible home for her.  She is not really a Ridgeback, but she does indeed have a ridge.

What happens next is a first for TIRR Rescue and it would change the trajectory for little Sunny.  The call came that Sunny had been hit by a car and the driver drove off leaving her with extensive injuries.  Local friends who had been watching her called Roy with this sad and shocking news.  As TIRR routinely does, medical attention is authorized IMMEDIATELY.  We will do our fundraising diligence once she is safe and on the road to recovery.

Sunny was near Lufkin, Texas at the time of the injury.  Michael, a friend of TIRR Rescue volunteered time to facilitate her transport to Paradise, Texas.  Michael called another friend at Sky School of East Texas.  Long story short, the flight school stepped up and flew Sunny from Lufkin to Bridgeport, at his expense, to give Sunny a chance at the life she deserves.

Once she settled in at TIRR Rescue, she was taken to Justin Animal Hospital for further evaluation and care by Dr. Paul and Dr. Denna Ingram.  Further x-rays indicated more extensive injuries requiring additional surgeries and a longer recovery period.  Treatment plans have been obtained, and we will need to do a little fundraising on behalf of Sunny.

Guardian angels, indeed, were following Ms. Sunny when the people in Lufkin assisted her in getting immediate medical attention, then kind transporters ensured she got to TIRR Rescue, next Dr. Paul and Dr. Denna’s experienced hands evaluated her needs and last but not least, Sierra and Noah volunteered to foster her until she is released medically.  How much better can it get for Sunny!  She is truly blessed.

Of course, there is the cost of the treatment plans.  And as routinely done by TIRR, we front the funding in hopes that friends and supporters will assist with the cost we have incurred. The vetting cost for Sunny in Lufkin to get her stabilized was $1,000.

The treatment plans at Justin Animal Hospital include FHO surgery, the repairs and bandage changes from the broken front leg, and finally the vaccinations, spay and dental work.  The low estimate treatment plans are $3,253.23 with the high estimate being $4,025.43.
