Brandy update

Brandy is one month out from her original surgery and about 3 weeks out from her second procedure to repair the damage from getting to the wound.  She is doing excellent, as is her surgical site.  The wound is healing very well, and we have graduated from major bandage changes to once daily and it is so simple especially considering she is EXCELLENT to let you work with the bandages.  Brandy will have a post-op vet appointment tomorrow and we are looking for a good report.  Stay tuned….

We do believe in miracles as we have seen endless numbers of them during our 25 years doing dog rescue.  It is extremely rare for us to solicit foster care as we routinely handle surgical recovery/therapy ourselves with the help of other TIRR supporters.  We find that Brandy does need more emotional support and human time than we typically have and we are so wanting her to have someone that can devote the time she wants/needs at this point.  Brandy obviously is getting what she needs to recover physically but really needs more human time.

Brandy is a very active 7-year-old. She is totally dependent upon her human family for emotional support.  She is not happy if she cannot be near her humans.

Brandy is a big girl at 87 pounds.  She does walk fairly well on a leash provided the person at the other end of the leash is in charge.  She will try to take over but is easily corrected.

And last, but certainly not least – Brandy is looking for a permanent home.  She would be happy to be an only dog, but also does enjoy another strong lead dog, perhaps a male.  However, her best friend at TIRR has been Daisy, the Greyhound, a strong female leader. While Brandy was having surgery and getting back to normal, Daisy found her forever family and has gone home.

Are you the miracle we are looking for?

Brandy was surrendered by her owner due to conflicts with another dog in the household.  Although we know she had a conflict, she has interacted well with several dogs since arriving at TIRR Rescue.  She does gain some tranquility when another strong lead dog is around.  Her best friend is a dog much younger and larger.  I would say she is almost dependent upon this dog for support.  This tells me that she is capable of building a quick & solid bond with any dog that does not try to dominate or intimidate her.  We have found that Brandy is a little nervous and thrives on having her human close at hand.  She is definitely looking for a family that needs a dog; she is definitely a dog looking for a family.

When she arrived, she had a growth on her hip area that we had checked at her first vet visit.  It was determined that it was likely a mast cell tumor and needed to be removed.  This week the surgery was done, and we are hoping for a positive pathologist report.

The surgery itself cost $3000. with possible followup costs to come. If you or anyone you know would like to help it would be greatly appreciated. We thank our TIRR community in advance. We cannot do this life saving work without your generosity.
